When building Barn Doors, simple design is more authentic to the farmhouse style. However with a little imagination, a modern or industrial look is also achievable with the help of angle iron or other metal building materials. Billy Leeka started this project with a pair of 100 year old Antique Egyptian doors and the end product was nothing less than stunning!
Eco Relics is home to a wide variety of reclaimed lumber that is perfect for building a sliding barn door, including authentic barn wood, heart pine, oak, walnut, cypress, and in this case, the customer chose Antique Egyptian doors! These doors are constructed out of Eastern European pine that is primarily out of Russia. Hand forged metal work inserts that were primarily cold connected with rivets and some vintage glass panels. Since the Iron is riveted instead of welded this typically indicates pre-1900.
Over a hundred years of sand and wind and sun has left them weathered and with lots of stories to tell, but with a little creativity and a healthy dose of elbow grease, they can be brought back to life as a repurposed piece that is quite elegant.
For many it’s not just the rustic beauty that these custom barn doors possess, it’s the history or the heritage. A truly authentic aged, salvaged or reclaimed barn door is so much more special with all the nicks and cuts, knot holes and nails, and if you take into consideration the history behind these old Egyptian Doors you can see that these doors are priceless.
These old doors can be used as pantry doors, closet doors, wine cellar doors, or just propped against the dining room wall as a statement piece. By using his vision, Billy was able to build a one-of-a-kind set of Barn Doors that will last for generations to come.
Every single barn door and other pieces of custom furniture that come out of our shop is beautiful, unique, one of a kind and made to last!
