All of our custom farm tables are built from authentic salvaged or reclaimed lumber. This beautiful, rugged farm table was constructed using authentic reclaimed heart pine. This salvaged heart pine comes from various sources such as old barns, historical houses, tobacco barns and farmhouses or turn of the century warehouses.
These salvaged, authentic Heart Pine timbers, which would otherwise be destined for the land fill, have a wonderful hidden beauty that is unmatched with todays’ ‘new growth’ timbers.
Building these rugged farm tables is an involved process. Our craftsmen first pick out select pieces of salvaged heart pine timbers and saw them into usable lumber, to the desired dimensions. They then cut slots in the boards to accommodate ‘domino’ joiners. The dominoes are glued in place then the boards are joined together with glue clamped together on the workbench.
After setting up for several days to allow the glue to dry fully, the clamps are removed and the table tops and seats are planed and sanded.
The base for the table, and the bench bases were assembled using rough sawn lumber. The rustic look for these bases was achieved using very little additional ‘distressing’.
These authentic heart pine planks made perfect bench seats. After planing and sanding, stain was applied and a semi-gloss finish.
As in olden times, Parker and Nate sit around the farm table at the end of the day and just chat and toast to another fine job. All our custom built Farm tables bring back that down home charm with the same rugged functionality!
