The Eco Relicaster Custom Guitar Build

We approached our resident luthier and wood shop craftsman Chris Lawson, and he was more than excited to build the very first, one-of-a-kind "Eco Relicaster”.

We decided we wanted to try and build a custom guitar for our International Guitar Month Kick-Off Concert giveaway, using reclaimed or salvaged materials, and we wanted it to be a beautiful, professional instrument. We approached our resident luthier and wood shop craftsman Chris Lawson, and he was more than excited to build the very first, one-of-a-kind Eco “Relicaster”.

After going through many drawings and ideas, Chris came up with final design and started the build by constructing the neck. The blank for the neck was constructed using some beautiful reclaimed Maple and Black walnut.

After the rough shape of the neck was achieved using old fashioned hand tools, Chris selected a piece of Amazonian Rosewood for the fretboard.

After the frets were pressed into the Amazonian Rosewood fretboard, it was time to create the body. Chris collaborated with shop manager Doug and they found an antique Mahogany wardrobe that couldn’t be saved. They salvaged some of the wood and Chris got to work joining the boards that they milled.

To bring out the natural beauty of the old wood, Chris chose to apply an oil finish rather than use a varnish or other type coating.
